“I can't afford a
lawyer,” groaned Cody in despair.
“But I can!”
said Luigi. “I'll pay,” he said to Michael.
“My dad or anyway his
firm might do it pro bono.” When he saw Luigi's incomprehension,
he added, “for free!”
He paused then said,
“I'll just go'nd get him.”
“Where is he?”
inquired Luigi puzzled.
“Up at the main house.”
Seeing that Luigi was still puzzled, he continued, “This cottage
is the old gate house. My folks live up in the”—he hesitated for
a second or two, and Luigi intuited that he was looking for the right
word before he settled on—“house a bit higher up the mountain.”
He looked at both the others. “Will you be OK? I won't be long.”
“Yeah. And … thank
you.”
“No worries, mate.
It's my pleasure.”
