Dieux du Stade

It's French, mes amis. And it means 'Gods of the Stadium'. And they are. Young French rugby players, who seem to be leaner and more beautiful than their British, New Zealand, Ozzie or South African counterparts.

The new Dieux du Stade calendar, magnificently photographed by Tony Duran, is out. Just a few photos to whet your appetite and possibly wet your..... ahem.

One thing which intrigues me: the beaut blokes in these photos must know they're going to be perved at by all us homos. OK, there is prolly a huge female audience too, but the women I know don't much care for muscly guys, even as tastefully muscular as these guys. Does it bother them? One suspects not: ppl I know from Europe say that though they don't make a fuss about it, many, many youngsters these days don't much care whether their partner is male or female. The world is moving on from the either/or culture of 30 years ago. A sporty friend (American football and soccer) reckons that sportsmen (young ones) are comfy with touching other men and being close to them. Maybe. Jason Akermanis doesn't think so, as I've mentioned before. But then he's a nincompoop.

There are other calendars of beaut sportsmen. But these are to my mind the best. And just imagine how sexy their accents are!

I'm off to take a cold shower.

Chris Newman

A footy player (i.e., not a rugby player and not a soccer player. We have three distinct football codes in Oz.)

I like the way he wears tights during practice, without that horrible "modesty" which makes many footy players wear shorts over their tights.

He's far from pretty, but still, well, um... interesting. A manly sexiness.

Just for the record: though he appears on this blog, I have no idea whether he's gay or has ever even quietly fancied another bloke. The Kinsey report said 37% of the total male population had at least some overt homosexual experience to the point of orgasm between adolescence and old age. 37%!!!! Not just thoughts. Orgasm. ORGASM. Isn't that an amazing statistic to bash the Christian-Fascists with? Just think of this: every third guy you see on the street has had sex with another guy at some time in his life.

It's a gay old world, isn't it? Or at least, a bi one. Tell that to Jason Akermanis. But this bloke (and Jasie, too) belong most probably to the roughly two-thirds of all males who are resolutely straight. Just thought I'd get that out of the way in case somebody thinks I'm suggesting they're gay because they appear on this blog.

Give me strength!

Two pointers showing just how much road we still have to travel to acceptance.

Firstly, from the UK. EastEnders, as I'm sure you all know, is a rather good soapie set in London's east end, traditionally a working class area. Recently, they've added a gay storyline to the many threads held together in the traditional soap opera format. And the actor playing the gay character gets catcalls and boos when he goes out in public. Give me strength! Of course, there's the stupidity which confuses a character and his actor. This isn't kindergarten, my sweets. But even to comment like that, whether or not the actor himself is gay or bi (and who gives a flying foo foo valve?), shows how much further we still have to go to get to the easy-going situation where it quite literally doesn't matter what your sexuality is. Here's the Daily Mail's report.

Then, in sunny Oz, Jason Akermanis, previously thought to be gay-friendly, produced this gem:

Football clubs are very different environments. Locker room nudity is an everyday part of our lives and unlike any other work place. I believe it would cause discomfort in that environment should someone declare himself gay.

Good grief. Get over yourselves, footy players. So not coming out makes it different? How do you know that given the normal (so to speak) gay ratio, 1 bloke in 10 of your teammates isn't surreptitiously ogling your bum, Jasie? Never mind the bisexuals, who might (o tempora! o mores!) deceive you by having a girlfriend yet still perve on your pecs?

How... pathetic.
