Off-line
I've been off-line for a month or so, now. I've been unwell (going for some more tests in 2 weeks' time); depressed; tired. All that stuff.
Maybe the problem is simple: old age. I'll be 64 in a few weeks. And when I say "old age", I mean the way in which life wears us out. The death of family and friends, of the little dogs we love. The realisation that no matter how hard you try, ppl are still going to be bigoted and nasty. The wear and tear of constantly struggling against debts and poverty. My lady was saying how once we would have bounced back from adversity. Ah, the resilience of youth! Now, when things go wrong it's so hard to find the energy to get going again.
Maybe it's that I am unfit. A desk job; too much wining and dining with clients, not enough exercise (because of sore knees). On which principle, since I am now swimming 40 lengths (1 km) 3 or 4 times a week, things should improve! We'll see. At least I'm losing weight again.
So ... a picture of Venice, a city which fascinates me, which I've never visited, but which I hope to see, one day.

Handsome
Young blokes can be beautiful and cute. But to be honest, an older bloke who's looked after himself is sexier to me. Not pretty. Handsome. [Memo: must go to gym more often.] And as my mate Rock says ... I like the hint of what's under those boxers (swimshorts?)

Older Blokes
I would like to have a bod as good as the guy in the middle of this photo: proof (if you needed it) that older blokes can look just as sexy as younger ones. I like his friends too ... but he really looks very good
I'm working on the bod. I'll get there one day.

Older Guys

I've bemoaned the absence of stories ( books or films) about older gay-shaded guys. All the pics you ever see are of handsome youngsters. So I'd thought I'd share some images of Craig Foster, who is (or used to be) an Ozzie soccer player. He's about 40 now, and all these photos are recent.
Now before y'all start jumping up and down, I have no idea whether Fozzie is gay or straight. I'm just posting this pics to show you that an older bloke can be very handsome. Colin Firth (I suppose fifty-ish now) is not gay, either, and he's very, very hot. It's something to do with them still having good bodies. No flab, no fat, no sags. When you combine that with the assurance and confidence that older guys have, the savoir-faire that allows them to navigate the world with grace and finesse...

I suppose the conclusion for me is to do more exercise. So I'm off to the gym.

What do you think?

Gareth Thomas
It's interesting how varied tastes are. Just as well, really, or we'd never find partners, would we?I'm not unappreciative of beautiful young men, yet sometimes, it's the sheer raw sexiness of a real man which attracts me more.
Some ppl would say that Gareth Thomas is not a real man, because he has recently come out as gay. This is the classic confusion between 'gender dysphoria' and sexuality, one even gay-shaded blokes frequently continue to make -- always assuming that there is in fact such a beast as a 'real man'. It takes courage to come out, especially in macho contact sports like rugby, footy or soccer, and most players choose not to do it.
Coming out isn't just about yourself, and the sense of relief honesty brings, but also about others. For every celebrity sportsman w
ho comes out, some poor bloke somewhere is going to feel bett
er about being gay, about being an outsider and perhaps even about being a bit femme.Courage is for me one of the defining characteristics of being a real man. And Gareth Thomas has it in spades. One flatulent inflated British journalist opined that Thomas had done rugby a disservice by being afraid to come out. Only a straight would say that. What utter tosh.
Anybody who's at all gay-shaded would know how fricking hard it is to reveal something so private about yourself, without knowing how your friends or the public will respond. People you love may turn against you, or cool, or become embarrassed ("Oh my God, he's gay! Will he want to kiss me? Will he caress my bum?"). That journalist -- he shall remain nameless -- is an idiot.

Anyway, I wanted to celebrate real men. And I've included photos of Gareth Thomas, a real man if ever there was one. Sexy and brave. And he has lovely eyes.
Oh, and Mr Thomas, if you ever read this, I hope you're not offended. I'm proud of you. Well done. You've done us all a favour. Thank you.

The Love That Dares Not Speak Its Name

No, not gay love. The love between older guys. Yep. We exist. We have romantic feelings. We love and lust. But do you think there are books, or films, or songs about us out there? Oh, one or two. A Single Man with the incandescent sexy and astonishing Colin Firth. Right, now that we've got that example out of the way, let's think of others. Ummmm. Errrrr. Wee-eeellll.
It makes me sick. I am heartily sick of gay coming of age stories. Yeah, I know, coming out is hard, and I started writing because my discovery of myself was so difficult, and I hoped to make it easier for others. But it's time to celebrate mature passion, mature love by men who've been through the mill, and have been ground down a little during the process. Men whose hormonal fires might have been banked down, but whose capacity for love is undimmed, has maybe even grown as that arrogant solipsistic period of our lives gives way to a more thoughtful caring maturity.
I'll keep looking. Don't hold your breath.
