Tim Tebow

I was in two minds about whether to include this pic of Tim Tebow.

He's handsome and attractive --- on the surface.  But he has also proved himself no friend to gay-shaded men.  The argument about whether he's a homophobe  is still running, but he's a fundamentalist Christian.  And they are for sure hostile to us.   Extremely hostile.  The Christian-Fascists are always saying they don't hate us even as they deny us our rights.  You know, all that claptrap about hate the sin love the sinner.  Even as they tell us that loving another man is a sin, and that we will go to hell for it.   Even as they implicitly encourage us to lie about our sexuality, encourage us to go back to the poisoned confines of the closet, encourage us to pretend to be straight when we were born the way we are.  We cannot stop being gay.

Tebow's been involved With Focus on Family, a gay-hate group.  And his church, First Baptist Church, is profoundly homophobic.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.  After all, I suspect that many of the jocksters I portray here are homophobes, if less open about it.  There are very few like Ben Cohen, who is straight but gay-friendly.

The oil lamps in the cottage were lit. The soft light spilled out of the uncurtained windows onto the decking. The moon was reflected in silver ripples across the lagoon, and the air was warm and utterly still. Tom closed the door of the car, quietly. He knew that Adam had to be aware of his arrival. The stillness of the country night, the darkness of the forest, the loneliness of the cottage meant that it would have been hard to miss.

His relief that Adam was there and alive made him light-headed.

He had marshalled arguments and words, but when he opened the door and saw Adam sitting in the tatty comfy sofa, an open bottle next to him, the single glass black with wine, he found that none of them would do.

A gay-friendly British (former) rugby player.  He's 100% straight himself, but is happy to have gay admirers, and he's also working against homophobic bullying, starting the StandUp Foundation when he retired from rugby.

I strongly suspect that "straight" men who react badly to gayness are themselves uncertain about their sexuality.   Someone utterly confident in his maleness can be easy with gay blokes and gay causes.  And he can show his so-called "feminine" side by loving his child.

Male Beuty

First off, 'beuty' is my little rebellion against the absurdities of English spelling. I know it's spelled 'beauty'. So there.


I take as my exemplars of male beuty Ben Cohen (the English rugby player) and Mitch Hewer (a Brit actor, who acts a gay teen in a Brit soap). Both men are straight. Now I'm not averse to Mitch Hewer's looks. He has a lovely lithe body and a pretty face. Wish mine were half so good. But Ben Cohen does it for me far more that Mitch does. That chunkier man's body, that squarer face.


Who knows why?

It just is so.
